IPqwery provides a complete picture of the IP holdings of any company. Get an overview of the technologies a company possesses (patents), its brands (trademarks), its inventors, and how it scores for being innovative (IP Activity).

Patent and Trademark data are pulled directly from the company’s IP profile and listed on their Crunchbase profile page. For example, if you were on Google's Crunchbase profile, you would see Google’s intellectual property information listed under the IPqwery section of the profile.

Our Data Boost subscription will provide you with the following data from IPqwery:

Data Field Description
Abstract
A concise summary of the invention disclosed in the patent application
Class Description
The description of the classes assigned to the patent or trademark, as determined by the patent or trademark office.
Filing Date
The filing date of the patent or trademark.
Filing Office
The office that the patent or trademark was filed with.
First Publication Date
The first publication date of the patent.
Goods and Services
The goods and services to which this trademark will apply.
IP Activity Score
Measure of innovativeness based on trailing 5 years of IP filings, as detected by IPqwery.
Issue Date
The issue date of the patent or trademark.
Most Popular Class Description
The description of the most popular class assigned to the majority of this companies patents.
Most Popular Patent Class
Most popular class of patents across all the companies patents owned or applied for.
Most Popular Trademark Class
Most popular class of trademarks across all the companies trademarks owned or applied for.
Patent (Title)
The name of the patent.
Patent Category
The class or category of the patent, as defined by the Patent Office.
Patent Owner
The owner of the patent.
Patent Status
The current status of the patent.
Patents Granted
Total number of patents granted and owned by the company.
Patents Pending
Total number of patents applied for that are pending.
Registration Date
The date the trademark was registered.
Total Patents
Total number of pending and granted patents.
Total Trademarks
Total number of pending and registered trademarks.
Trademark (Title)
The name of the trademark.
Trademark Class
The class assigned to the trademark, as defined by the IP office.
Trademark Owner
The owner of the trademark.
Trademark Status
The current status of the trademark.
Trademarks Pending
Total number of trademarks pending registration.
Trademarks Registered
Total number of trademarks registered.

Finding IPqwery data on Crunchbase profiles

  1. Click on any company or organization profile
  2. Scroll down to the IPqwery card
  3. Gain in-depth insights into a company’s vendor stack by navigating the Patents, Trademarks Tabs

Note: If there is no IPqwery data for a company profile, no IPqwery card will be shown.

How to use IPqwery patent and trademark data

IPqwery intellectual property data lets you investigate the IP assets of a given company on Crunchbase.

Compare patents and trademarks across companies. Gain valuable insights into a company’s product strategy and supercharge your market research.

Let’s take a company like Snap Inc. for example, a company’s whose future products are a big mystery.

First navigate to Snap’s Crunchbase profile and click the Technology tab. Then scroll to the IPqwery card.

The Overview tab will show you statistics on Snap’s IP portfolio including both assets that have granted and are still pending.

Snap Inc. doesn’t appear to have filed any patents recently. Let’s check out the Trademarks tab to see if we can get any hints about Snap’s next move.

Looks like Snap has been busy filing trademarks for LENS CREATOR. We can click into a Trademark like LENS CREATOR to learn more and view a pdf version of the patent filing itself.IPQwery_3.png

IPqwery data in Advanced Search

You can use IPqwery filters with advanced search & query builder to find the biggest innovators in the Crunchbase dataset. Drill down to specific sectors, company sizes, funding stages, or however else you’d like to find who’s making serious moves to expand their intellectual property portfolio.

Let’s say we’re an entrepreneur with a startup. We can gain some killer market intel by querying the Crunchbase dataset for the companies with the most patents using the keyword Machine Learning.

  1. Select Companies from the Advanced dropdown in the top navigation
  2. From the filters section, scroll down to Partner Filters
  3. Locate the filter Patent Keywords (IPQwery)and enter Machine Learning.
  4. Watch your results update in real time

Viewing IPqwery columns in search results

To see IPqwery columns across your search results, start by clicking Edit View or Add Columns.

Using the search example above, we can add columns for the following IP stats:

  • IP Score
  • Patents Pending
  • Patents Granted
  • Total Patents
  • Trademarks Pending
  • Trademarks Registered
  • Total Trademarks
  • Most Popular Patent Class
  • Most Popular Class Description
  • Most Popular Trademark Class

Looking for more filters related to Patents? 

First, in the Filters section, click on “Need More Filters? Try Query Builder” - you’ll see this option at the bottom. From there you should be brought to our query builder that allows you to add more Marketplace filters to your search. 

Now lets build a bigger search! 

  1. Click Add Companies Filter
  2. Scroll to Patents and Trademarks by IPqwery in the filter picker then scroll to Patent Status
  3. Click Patents pending then enter 10
  4. Click Add Companies Filter
  5. Click Industries then type and select ‘FinTech’ from the dropdown menu
  6. Click the green Search button
  7. Click Edit View → Patents and Trademarks by IPqwery → Patents Pending
  8. Click the Apply Changes button

Wow! Looks like Square is making a big push with 285 patents currently pending internationally. We can click into their profile and navigate to the IPqwery profile section to learn more about what these patents are. This will give us key strategic insights, helping us better understand the changing landscape of our vertical, FinTech.

IPqwery drill-downs

After running a search, click any of the blue numbers in the “Patents Pending” column. This will bring you to another list of all the individual patents associated with that row in your search, like below.

From this page you can also query the IPqwery patent database for other companies or find the most recently filed patents and trademarks in a given sector.

You can also use drill-downs by clicking on the blue magnifying glass when it appears next to a company name.

The following filters are available in the IPqwery drill-down:

  • Patent Title

  • Filing Office
  • Issue Date
  • Filing Date
  • First Publication Date
  • Class Description
  • Patent Owner
