Prerequisites

Before connecting, make sure you have:

  1.  A Crunchbase user account
  2. An MCP-compatible client, such as: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Cursor, or your own AI application. 
  3.  A Crunchbase MCP-enabled connection
    • You can connect by logging into your Crunchbase account via OAuth ("Log In with Crunchbase") directly from your AI client.
  4. Basic familiarity with configuring MCP servers in your chosen client

Use Crunchbase MCP

The Crunchbase MCP includes 13 tools:

Finding and researching companies

Endpoints What it does  Suggested Action
cb_expert_query_answer Answers analytical questions using Crunchbase data. Ask a natural-language analytical question and get structured results (e.g., "Which Series B fintech companies raised in Q1 2025?")
cb_expert_build_search Turns a plain-language request into a structured Crunchbase search. Translate a plain-language description into a structured Crunchbase search, with an optional preview of results
cb_search_query Runs a precise, filter-driven search across Crunchbase entities. Run a precise, filter-driven search across any entity collection with full control over fields, predicates, sorting, and pagination
cb_expert_resolve_entity Matches a company, investor, or person name to the correct Crunchbase entity. Resolve a company or investor name to a canonical Crunchbase entity, useful when names are ambiguous
cb_entity_get Pulls a full Crunchbase profile for a specific company, person, or investor. Pull a full Crunchbase profile for a specific company, person, or investor, including related cards like funding rounds and board members
cb_entity_autocomplete

Suggests matching Crunchbase entities based on a partial name.

Managing research lists

Endpoints What it does  Suggested Action
cb_list_query Retrieves the saved Crunchbase lists available to you. Retrieve all of your saved Crunchbase lists
cb_list_create Creates a new Crunchbase list. Create a new list to organize a target company set or deal pipeline
cb_list_add_entities Adds companies, investors, or other entities to an existing list. Add companies or investors to an existing list
cb_list_get Opens a saved list and returns its contents. Read the contents of a saved list

Usage and domain discovery

cb_metering_get_state Shows your current MCP usage and remaining quota. Check your current usage and remaining quota
cb_expert_query_domain Checks what types of questions the Crunchbase data model can answer. Explore what questions the Crunchbase data model can answer, or validate whether a specific question is answerable before running it
cb_expert_submit_feedback Submits feedback on a result or answer. Flag a result as helpful or incorrect to improve answer quality over time

Data  Prompt
Early-stage sourcing in a sector

List US-headquartered FinTech companies whose funding history includes a Series D, Series E, Series F, Series G, Series H, Series I, Series J, or later equity round announced on or after 2024-01-01, and whose IPO status is private/not public. 

Rank by total funding raised, top 20. 

Show company, HQ, qualifying round type, qualifying round date, latest round type, latest round date, total funding raised, IPO status, and most recent post-money valuation if available.

Syndicate / co-investor mapping

For US Series A rounds in climate tech that closed in 2025, list the 20 largest by round size. 

For each, show company, HQ, amount, close date, and every disclosed participating investor. 

Sort by amount, largest first.

Recent acquisitions in a target sector

For US-headquartered companies in the Climate Tech category or related climate categories, list the largest Series A funding rounds announced from 2025-01-01 through 2025-12-31. 

Include only rounds with disclosed amount. Return up to 20, and state if fewer than 20 exist. 

Show company, HQ, round amount, announced date, all disclosed participating investors, and the category match used. Sort by amount descending.
