Access Crunchbase company insights powered by proprietary private company data and AI models that help you understand where private markets are heading — and act on momentum earlier.

With Crunchbase’s Predictions and Insights API package, you have access to Market Insights data. Market Insights are a new, standardized signal that shows whether a market is growing, stable, or declining — synthesizing multiple signals across companies, products, and market activity into one directional view. Rather than relying on lagging indicators, teams can use Market Insights to see how segments are shifting in the moment.

Incorporate Market Insights into your own internal models and tools to monitor market momentum, time decisions with greater confidence, and identify where opportunity is forming earlier.

Market Insights are returned on Industries (categories) and Micro-Industries (micro_categories) entities in the Predictions and Insights API package and include:
  • Directional classification — growing, stable, or declining — with a percent change
  • One or more reasons that help explain the direction (e.g., funding, usage, exits, macroeconomic conditions)
  • A brief, plain-language summary explaining the industry’s direction

How are Market Insights generated?

Market Insights are powered by micro-industries, which provide the segmentation layer that makes industry-level momentum measurable. By aggregating signals across companies, products, and market activity within a micro-industry, Crunchbase identifies whether segments are growing or declining — these include:

  • Micro-Industry cluster changes
  • Funding and exit activity
  • Engagement signals
  • Macroeconomic conditions

When analyzed only at the company level, these changes can appear fragmented; aggregated at the segment level with this new insight, and they reveal patterns that broad industry hierarchies often miss.

Market Insights help you:

  • Time market entry and exit with greater confidence: For investors, knowing whether a market is heating up or cooling off is a critical input to sourcing and decisions on capital deployment. Use directional signals to source within growing segments earlier, validate the timing of new positions, and avoid markets that are saturating or contracting before it shows up in funding data.
  • Prioritize pipeline by market momentum: For GTM teams, knowing which segments are growing helps focus resources where pipeline is most likely to convert. Use Market Insights to prioritize accounts in expanding markets, deprioritize cycles in declining ones, and ground territory and segmentation decisions in current market direction rather than static firmographics.
  • Monitor portfolios and strategic bets: For corporate development, strategy teams, and wealth managers, the markets companies operate in can shift faster than internal review cycles can catch. Use Market Insights to flag when a portfolio company or strategic segment is weakening, surface emerging risk earlier, and inform proactive conversations with stakeholders or clients.
