Diversity Spotlight reflects the types of diversity represented in an organization. You’ll notice we have two variations for each diversity option - ‘Led’ and ‘Founded’.
Led for a company refers to the CEO of the company that identifies as one of the listed underrepresented groups (ie, Hispanic/Latinx Led - a Hispanic/Latinx person is in a current CEO position at the company).
Led for an investment firm refers to Managing Partners that identify as one of the listed underrepresented groups; this does not include non-investment Partners (Venture Partners, etc.)
Founded refers to least one of the founding members of the company identifies as one of the listed underrepresented groups (ie, Hispanic/Latinx Founded - a Hispanic/Latinx person founded the company).

The category also includes groups such as Ghanaian, South African, Barbadian, Kenyan, Liberian, and Bahamian.” |
American Indian / Alaska Native |
“The category “American Indian or Alaska Native” includes all individuals who identify with any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America) and who maintain tribal affiliation or community attachment. It includes people who identify as “American Indian” or “Alaska Native” and includes groups such as Navajo Nation, Blackfeet Tribe, Mayan, Aztec, Native Village of Barrow Inupiat Traditional Government, and Nome Eskimo Community.” |
South Asian |
The category “South Asian” includes all individuals who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in South Asia. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to: Asian Indian, Bangladeshi, Bengali, Bhutanese, Nepalese, Pakistani, etc. |
East Asian |
The category “East Asian” includes all individuals who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in East Asia. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to: Chinese, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, Mongolian, Taiwanese, etc. |
Southeast Asian |
The category “Southeast Asian” includes all individuals who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in Southeast Asia. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to: Vietnamese, Singaporean, Thai, Mien, Malaysian, Laotian, Indonesian, etc. |
Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander |
“The category “Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander” includes all individuals who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to: Native Hawaiian, Samoan, Chamorro, Tongan, Fijian, and Marshallese. The category also includes groups such as Palauan, Tahitian, Chuukese, Pohnpeian, Saipanese, Yapese, etc.” |
Hispanic / Latinx |
“The category “Hispanic / Latinx" includes all individuals who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central and South America, and other Spanish cultures. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to: Mexican or Mexican American, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Salvadoran, Dominican, and Colombian. This also includes groups such as Guatemalan, Honduran, Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Venezuelan, etc.” |
Middle Eastern / North African |
“The category “Middle Eastern or North African” includes all individuals who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in the Middle East or North Africa. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to: Lebanese, Iranian, Egyptian, Syrian, Moroccan, and Algerian. The category also includes groups such as Israeli, Iraqi, Tunisian, Chaldean, Assyrian, Kurdish, etc.” |

Should an individual identify with one or more of our diversity options, we encourage them to select the tags that best represent them as more than one can be selected & added to a profile!
We recognize that our initial list has not captured all underrepresented groups, but rest assured, diversity spotlight tags will continue to evolve. We want to be inclusive and encourage discussions around these data points. In collaboration with trusted experts in diversity & inclusion, and our in-house data management team, we will make thoughtful decisions on how to best iterate this feature.
